Kate the Earthling

On various trips to Montana Kate has spent many hours hiking and exploring the mountains of Glacier National Park – a place of incredible natural beauty and deep history. The record of Earth’s timeline is shown so clearly in these mountains with distinct layers of grey and green cutting across the landscape. Glaciers continue to carve much of this landscape and create hidden glacial lakes with milky blue waters. Kate’s time spent amongst these stark lines and milky blue lakes inspired this quadriptych.

“Timelines” was created with preserved mosses and rock in frames built from locally reclaimed wood.

Kate Shooltz is a Philadelphia-based moss artist known as Kate the Earthling. Inspired by the natural world and her passion for the Earth, her creations promote a biophilic lifestyle enriched by nature. By using only preserved mosses and other natural elements her creations require no water or sunlight yet remain green and soft for years to come. Using real, but preserved plants ensures that her creations are accessible to everyone regardless of their green thumb or environment. Nature for all – the mission of Kate the Earthling.

Since 2018, Kate the Earthling has created one-of-a-kind moss walls for clients all over the United States in residential, commercial, and retail spaces. Her work has been featured in the Olympic National Park “Terminus” Glacier Memorial Art Project, on Bravo TV’s Vanderpump Rules and Family Karma, in Italian Magazine Biophilia Natural Trend and in various online publications such as PureWow. Kate takes pride in creating a unique piece for each client and never duplicating a design. Every natural element is arranged solely by Kate in her Philadelphia art studio - each patch of moss and individual fern placed with intention and care. The happiness and purpose Kate has found in a life filled with nature is truly fulfilling. Through her artwork she hopes to inspire others to live the same.

Keith Sharp

By transforming the ordinary world around me, I attempt to create mysterious, subtle, and poetic images that causes the viewer to do a double take. My work evolves from one series to the next. When I begin a series, I focus in on a specific concept or idea. Then I create sketches of how I envision those ideas coming to life. I then begin to photograph the various images that I will collage together.

Keith Sharp is a photographer based in Media, PA. Solo exhibitions include: Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh, PA; The Arts Club of Washington, Washington, DC; The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE; Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA; US Botanical Gardens, Washington, DC; and FotoFest, Houston, TX. His work was included in various group shows, including: Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA; Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, DE; and the Robin Rice Gallery, New York, NY. Collections include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, PA; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA; and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Radnor, PA.
