Julia Way

Art in the Open

Julia Way explores spaces of interaction and reciprocity between the human and non-human world. Her practice includes plein air painting, outdoor installation, and experimental video. Her work has been exhibited at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, the Cheltenham Center for the Arts, the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Way is a fourth generation resident of the Tookany Creek (Philadelphia area) watershed.

Engaging with the Schuylkill River through preliminary research and being present on its banks is my primary purpose in this project. Video documentation of the exploration of various mark making techniques done on site, including relief printmaking with the footsteps of passersby, ink painting, and cyanotype will provide footage for an experimental video work.
