Artist Membership F.A.Q.

CFEVA understands that Philadelphia needs organizations that are supportive of artist careers in a variety of ways, from the technical to the creative. We recognize the benefits of connecting artists with industry experts as well as with peers, and the desire for artists to learn more deeply about the business side of art. We also know that that artists’ needs are not one-size-fits-all and there are many pathways to developing and strengthening your career. Our new Artist Membership Program has been designed to help you connect with CFEVA in the ways that are most meaningful to you and to offer a holistic and affordable approach to our programs. Below you'll find a few answers to some commonly asked questions.

I'm already an Artist Member, or have been in the past and am considering renewing. What's new this year?

You'll find that our basic membership level is now called Emerging, and is offered at a more affordable price of $35. This level is designed for the artist who is looking to learn from a community of peers, partners and collectors, while sharing their work with CFEVA’s network.

New this year, our Local Artist Membership is for those artists interested in being more deeply involved in CFEVAs programming and our greater community of artists. This membership provides direct access to our Philadelphia-based platform that actively engages artists, collectors, curators, art appreciators, and more through annual open studio tours, visiting curators, and additional programming throughout the year. ($125 annual membership)

Why are these changes being made?

CFEVA’s membership program is being restructured in response to recent artist surveys and focus groups, with a goal to further the engagement and access local artists have to CFEVA and to each other. This adjustment is merely a first step in a stronger connection between you, CFEVA and the innovative creatives we advocate for in the greater community.

How does this change further engagement and access for artists in Philadelphia?

Our new Local Artist level includes access to our Philadelphia-based open studio platform that actively engages artists, collectors, curators, and art appreciators—otherwise known as . In addition, artists at the Local membership level are invited to submit work for consideration for the free of charge, to ensure the work of Philadelphia artists transcends the city limits and is introduced to renowned curators and rising stars from around the country, among many other great perks.

Does joining the Local Artist membership save me money?

Yes! While you can still register for all CFEVA programs independently, becoming a member at the $125 level can save you up to $70 annually. As you can see in the chart below, with a price of $125 for the Local Artist Membership, you can save up to $70; and, you'll still be saving up to $50 more than you would have in our past program structure.

$125 is alot for me to pay at one time, but I would like to join at the Local level. Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, our goal at CFEVA is to make our programs as accessible as possible. If you would like to join local membership and the $125 up front fee is a hardship, call us and we can work out a payment plan that works for you.

I just purchased a $40 membership under the former program structure. What now?

Any membership purchased before this change will be honored as purchased through your current expiration date. If your membership is not due to expire until after June 1, 2018, you are invited to apply your current membership toward an upgrade to the Local Level (a difference of $85). With your upgrade, you will receive a full 12 months of memberhip at your new level. This opportunity to upgrade will expire June 1, 2018.

Is there anything else I should know?

This year CFEVA will be rebranding the POST Directory to Philadelphia’s Artist Directory and Open Studio Guidebook. Even if you decide not to participate in POST, if you are a Local Artist Member, your work will be featured in our Members section.

If you are interested in the Local Artist Membership, check out more information on POST! POST registration opens in February with new discounts in place, available through March 31, 2018. Register by June 1, 2018 to be including in print materials for the Tours.
